This dog came into the Memphis Animal Shelter in late October as a stray. She had a severe case of a noncontagious skin disease that made her sickly looking and unattractive. However, her infectious spirit and personality was noticed by the staff there who named her Hope and she quickly became one of their favorites. Throughout her time at the shelter, she was passed over time and time again by potential adopters. She just couldn’t compete with the other dogs whose appearance wasn’t marred by disease. Finally, it was decided by the shelter that they could keep her no longer. Her trip down the doggie green mile would come to an end the next day, but on this, the last day of her life, a volunteer there heard what was to happen and said, “No it isn’t!” With the help of  Dogs 2nd Chance, Hope was rescued from the shelter and given the best veterinary care available.

After he vet exam, she was taken to the volunteer’s home to recuperate. Here, she thrived and her appearance began to slowly recover. She had joined 4 other dogs in a home more suitable for 2 dogs, but her addition to the household only enhanced the amicable atmosphere that was there. She quickly became a surrogate big sister to one of the pups there. Nap time found them sleeping together snuggled against each other. Now her hair has largely returned and her strikingly handsome appearance resembles a mix of Labrador Retriever and Hound . She’s a very affectionate and playful dog. She loves attention, loves to be petted especially with belly rubs. At peak energy levels, she can be a little rambunctious, but responds well to the “No” command. She does great with other dogs and with people, she never met a stranger. She can be a playmate for kids and she can be a lap baby for couch potatoes. As was once said, “Without hope there's no point to anything.”

Please give Hope a chance!
